Project-based units with tangible student outcomes

These sample units turn creative technology into finished work students can explain, share, and add to a portfolio. Each can stand alone as a workshop or expand into a longer course.

Grades 1–54 weeks

From Sketch to 3D Print

Tinkercad · cardboard prototyping · 3D printer

Students observe a real-world problem, sketch a solution, model it in 3D, test for scale, and revise before printing.

Students practice
Spatial reasoning, measurement, iteration, and engineering vocabulary.
They leave with
A printed prototype and a short design reflection explaining what changed and why.
Grades 8–126 weeks

Short Documentary: Story, Shoot, Edit

Camera · interview planning · Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve

Students develop a question, research a subject, conduct an interview, shoot supporting footage, and edit a short documentary.

Students practice
Research, visual storytelling, camera coverage, sound, editing, and revision.
They leave with
A finished short film, a production folder, and an artist statement for a portfolio.
Grades 6–125 weeks

Build a Personal Web Portfolio

HTML · CSS · responsive design · image preparation

Students select work, write project descriptions, design a visual system, and build a responsive site that presents their process clearly.

Students practice
Audience awareness, design hierarchy, basic web development, and self-reflection.
They leave with
A shareable portfolio site and a repeatable structure for adding future work.
Grades 9–College6–8 weeks

World Building & Player Movement

Unreal Engine · level design · rapid prototyping

Students build a small navigable world around a place, mood, or story prompt, then test how movement and space affect the player experience.

Students practice
Spatial narrative, interaction design, systems thinking, playtesting, and critique.
They leave with
A playable prototype, a walkthrough recording, and a design brief documenting their choices.
